Exploring the art and architecture of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood makes for a beautiful (if perhaps slightly overwhelming) city day spent wandering into galleries and taking in the High Line view. David Zwirner’s 20th Street five-storied exhibition and project space commands full attention up on the West Side. Only one block away from the gallery’s existing West 19th Street locations, the space complements the gallery’s programming with presentations of large-scale installations and historical, thematic surveys dedicated to the work of modern and contemporary masters. Designed by Selldorf Architects, it’s the first commercial art gallery to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, with the outdoor garden spaces created by Piet Oudolf, who designed the gardens and plantings on the nearby High Line.
