Erik Madigan Heck is a New York-based photographer who has worked with some of the most exclusive names in fashion, including Ann Demeulemeester and Valentino. In 2010, Belgian designer Haider Ackermann commissioned him to photograph his first men's collection, and Giambattista Valli once personally requested that Madigan photograph 30 pages of fashion for A Magazine, for which Madigan serves as the U.S. correspondent. In 2007, Madigan created the now defunct Nomenus Quarterly, a limited-edition folio featuring artists and designers by the likes of Dries Van Noten, Helmut Lang, Elizabeth Peyton, and Jean Paul Gaultier, and which has made Madigan something of a fashion star in his own right.

WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE?
“He Liked His Eggs Runny”

WHAT CAN’T YOU TRAVEL WITHOUT?
The 35mm camera my mom gave me.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION?
Anywhere out west snowboarding: Snowbird, Utah, Sun Valley, Idaho, or Jackson Hole, Wyoming, or most recently, Telluride, Colorado.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO SHOW YOU “THEIR NEW YORK CITY,” WHO WOULD IT BE?
Al Pacino.

WHAT OR WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU RECENTLY AND WHY?
Édouard Vuillard, the French painter. His work continues to inspire and awe me every time I look at it. The volume of work he created in his lifetime is astounding, and some of his tiny little paintings are still so complex, even in 10 brush strokes.
