WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY BE?
According to Linux.
WHAT CAN’T YOU TRAVEL WITHOUT AND WHY?
My fake hair. Extensions, ponytails, and bangs… oh my!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION AND WHY?
I know I’m being a traitor to New York by saying this, but Los Angeles. I lived there for a year after graduating high school and it really was fabulous! I love the whole hustle-in-Hollywood culture there. My second love after nightlife is fame, so it kind of makes sense.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN NYC?
Most Sunday afternoons I’m piecing together notes on the night before for my column, which is currently featured in Paper Magazine. Then if the weather’s nice, cocktails on a friend’s rooftop.
IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO SHOW YOU “THEIR NEW YORK CITY,” WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
The Olson twins. They’ve seen and conquered every corner of this city in the early-to-mid aughts and are the living embodiment of rich grit. I’d love for them to show me what was cool and edgy in NYC while I was in middle school.
WHAT OR WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU RECENTLY AND WHY?
I am constantly being inspired by my friends and fellow colleagues in the nightlife industry. Susanne Bartsch, Ty Sunderland, Ladyfag, and Frankie Sharp are pillars in the community that I strive to be like on a daily basis.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE NYC RESTAURANTS? WHAT DO YOU ORDER THERE?
I absolutely LOVE Indochine. The entire staff is great, the food is fantastic; any given night and you’ll be sat by Donatella Versace or Naomi Campbell. I also love a good oyster moment at Sea Wolf in Brooklyn. There are multiple locations but the one right on the water is gorgeous!
WHAT’S YOUR GO-TO SPOT IN NYC FOR DRINKS?
I love the Box, that’s been my “home bar” since I moved here almost a decade ago. If I’m on the LES, I love drinking whiskey at iBar or Welcome to the Johnsons.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE NYC BRUNCH SPOTS; WHAT DO YOU ORDER WHEN YOU GO?
I love Baby Brasa, Essex, Crooked Knife, and Gitano.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR ART FIX IN NYC? DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ARTIST?
For me, fashion is art. I love hitting all of the stores in SoHo and looking at the most recent collections and their concurrent window installations.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LATE-NIGHT HANGOUTS IN NYC AND WHY?
Paul’s Casablanca and Paul’s Baby Grand are the perfect late-night spots to meet friends, lovers, or business prospects. There’s a spot to talk, dance, and kiss.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR UNDER-THE-RADAR MUST-DO RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NYC VISITORS?
Everyone needs a night out at the Box. Come with me and you’ll be well taken care of!
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE NYC STORES AND WHY?
If I’m shopping with someone else’s money, the evening wear floor of Saks is my go-to. If I need a fun last-minute club look, Reminiscence off 14th or Abracadabra in Chelsea are staples that never disappoint.
WHAT MUSIC ARE YOU LISTENING TO THESE DAYS? WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS?
I’m obsessed with FKA Twigs’ most recent mixtape, Caprisongs. All-time favs are Lana Del Rey and Kanye West… It’s a shame they hate each other.
WHAT ALBUM OR SONG WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR PERSONAL SOUNDTRACK TO NYC?
Don’t laugh! Born This Way by Lady Gaga. Specifically “Heavy Metal Lover” and “Marry the Night.”
WHEN YOU THINK OF NYC, ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR EMOTIONS OR MEMORIES THAT IMMEDIATELY COME TO MIND?
When NYC comes to mind my only emotion is gratitude. This city saved me from a dark place when I thought it was over for me and opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. My heart belongs to you, New York!
